Professor, Psychiatric & Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist
Dr. Kathleen Spadaro is an Associate Professor in nursing at Chatham University and a Psychiatric & Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist. She has been teaching in the graduate nursing programs at Chatham University since 2010 and has had a part-time psychotherapy practice in Murrysville, PA since 2000, where she receives referrals from primary care physicians, social workers, nurses, insurance companies and past clients. Dr. Spadaro received her PhD in Nursing at Pitt, MEd in Mental Health Counseling at UVA, and BSN and AAS in nursing at Marymount University. She has been involved or primary investigator in multiple research studies: mindfulness and breast cancer survivors research study, mindfulness study with weight loss, mindfulness and physical activity in middle-aged women, mindfulness with nursing students and a postpartum depression telephone screening and management research study. In her prior life, her nursing focus was administrative and clinical in psychiatric nursing. As a program administrator, she developed a Women’s Intensive Outpatient and Partial Hospitalization program at Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic (WPIC), developed mental health outpatient clinics for WPIC, and supported adult outpatient services at WPIC. Dr. Spadaro has provided psychiatric services in various settings: inpatient, outpatient, intensive outpatient and partial hospitalization programs. Health and wellness are essential components of both her personal and professional life.
